Dust Mites!

You cannot see them with the naked eye...but they are there! Dust mites
are tiny relatives of
ticks and spiders and
thrive in warm humid conditions. There favourite spot is your mattress,
your pillow, and your bedding, where they feed on dead skin cells and body
fluids you excrete while sleeping.
Dust
Mites Cause Major Health Problems

Many people blame pollen or pet dander for their asthma and allergy
problems, when in reality dust mites are recognized to be the main
cause for asthma, chronic Rhinitis (hay fever), and other allergies.
When dust mites grow, they shed their skin. The shedded skin and faeces are small enough to be easily
breathed in by humans, and are what cause the allergic reactions.

Besides asthma, rhinitis,
bronchitis, sinus, and other respiratory ailments, dust mites can be the
cause of other serious health problems such as fatigue, skin rashes, itchy
skin or eyes, "glue ear" (a condition which often causes hearing loss),
eczema, and chronic
dermatitis.
Without
any doubt, your mattress can be one
of the dirtiest pieces of furniture in
the house!
The
reasons for this unhygienic and allergy causing situation are numerous and
complex,
however, they do have one thing in common. In the last two decades manufacturers have
produced a relatively high quality product and can offer a long-term
guarantee of up to 15 years. As a result, the use of the mattress is
normally long-term, often 20 years or more.
How
old is your mattress?

Mattresses
today are seldom aired. They are heavy and
cumbersome and people
are generally too busy to deal with this cleaning problem. With the room
temperature and humidity
(airtight double glazing & central heating)
being constant the mattress becomes an ideal environment for dust mites,
bacteria, viruses and fungal spores.
It is well
documented and acknowledged internationally, that the presence of
dust mites
in homes is
directly responsible for numerous respiratory illnesses and even skin diseases.
One of these ailments,
asthma,
is increasing at an alarming rate among
children worldwide and is causing widespread concern. Many studies have been
undertaken to eradicate mites, from bedding in particular.
